What’s In & Out for 2024: Building a brand & business that’s timeless

Let’s talk about what’s in & out for 2024. Something I’m always striving to do in my business is build a more sustainable life for myself and for my clients. I’ve always found more value in quality details that last a long time versus trendy details that will fade.

This blog post was nearly a brand trends post because, well, they’re fun and topical! However, I realized something right when I was about to start writing it: caring about design trends, at least when it comes to branding, has been out, and will continue to be out for 2024. It’s just not something that I believe in. I’m all for the fun trends on Instagram or using a Pantone color of the year… if they tie back to your strategy and feel on-brand.

But when it comes to logos, your color palette, or your website, we want it to feel timeless and strategic.

Here at Emily Foster Creative, we’re in branding for the long-haul. We want each of our clients to have a timeless brand that lasts well beyond 2024 and feels really aligned with their purpose, ideal clients, and long-term goals.

When I think about continuing to build my own brand and the brands of my clients, here’s what’s in & out for 2024:

The In’s:

• Working on your Seach Engine Optimization for the long-term using strategy
• Investing in brand strategy and clarifying your brand message before paying someone to design your logo
• Investing in coaching or a course because you have a clear idea of your goals, and need some assistance getting there
• Adding bespoke details to your branding design, like illustrations or custom typography
• Taking time to rest, even if there’s still more on the to-do list
• Showing up consistently with blogging and emails

The Out’s

• Choosing an SEO keyword simply because the research says it’s the best one
• Buying a logo template on Etsy or hiring a Fiverr designer for $100
• Investing in coaching just because you’re unsure of what you’re doing
• Branding design that feels too minimalistic (unless it’s on-brand for you!)
• Filling time with busy work
• Putting our own marketing last

Here’s what’s in & out for 2024 in my personal life, that will ultimately affect the way I show up in my business:

The In’s:

• Quality clothing and jewelry
• Exercising regularly, to feel good
• Eating what I’m craving when I’m hungry
• Catching up on my extensive To Be Read pile
• Taking time off to rest

The Out’s:

• Cheap clothing and jewelry, or impulse sales buys
• Following a short-term workout
• Sticking to a highly regimented diet plan
• Shopping with no intention in mind
• Filling all my time off with more busy-ness
